Early Morning in the Zoo

In case you haven’t guessed, I like strolling through zoos, talking to the animals, and taking their pictures. No matter how many times I go to the same zoo, the visit is always different. The animals are sometimes sleeping and are barely visible. Other times, they’re eating or grazing or playing. Sometimes they come over to see the visitors and actually interact with them.

Yesterday morning, when the Wildlife World Zoo in the Phoenix area opened, my husband and I entered and started walking along the dirt pathways. I immediately pulled out my camera, preparing to take photos even though I’d taken hundreds of photos in that same zoo.

I thought I would share some of my favorite photos from yesterday, starting with some little monkeys who live on an island. The first monkey is playing with some fallen bark from a palm tree. Another monkey is playing in the water, sort of. Maybe the third monkey is watching to make sure his friend doesn’t fall in.

Some warthogs were enjoying their breakfast nearby. Tons of birds were hanging out on the fence, trying to figure out how to get some of the goods. A few birds decided to get off the fence and help themselves. Apparently, the warthogs, with their sharp tusks weren’t all that intimidating, or maybe it was because this particular warthog had one broken tusk.

A different kind of hog, the red river hog, was interesting in that it had curly ears. Take a look.

I managed to get a few ‘big cat’ photos, too.

The last two cats were actually overhead. I almost missed them until I looked up and saw right above me. You’ll need to look closely at the photos. In the first, you’ll see a cat face. In the second, you’ll see a black panther’s paw.

I have lots more photos from yesterday, but I don’t want to bore you. I’ll leave you with a couple photos of some lovely black swans.
