Fun at my ‘In the Shadows’ Book Talk

As you may know, I was scheduled to give a book talk on February 1st, but an ice storm caused a postponement. That book talk was rescheduled for today, in the new library in Ashland, Missouri, approximately mid-way between Columbia and Jefferson City.

I was nervous and excited about giving my first major book talk, but the room full of smiling faces (50 of them) made it a wonderful experience. We laughed a lot, and they asked me some great questions. My nervousness slipped away and I had so much fun that now I want to do it again. I was amazed that I didn’t even need the microphone that was on the table next to me.

I want to thank everyone who attended, and I hope that some who said they wanted to come but had conflicting plans will make it to another one of my talks in the future. Thank you, Kit and Cathy Salter for inviting me to speak. You did a great job with picking the venue, and I’m sure the next venue–the Osher Parks and Recreation Building–will be wonderful.

  • Sounds like a lot of fun, Susan, and reminds me of when I've done that sort of thing. You've whetted my appetite to find a way to do a few talks here.

  • Your book talk was such a pleasure. Chatty, friendly, with people who love books gathered in the perfect meeting room at the public library in Ashland. Smells of coffee and pastry didn't do any harm, either. The Salters have persevered and kept the Book Talk fires burning brightly. Thanks for your fresh mind and bubbling enthusiasm, Susan, not to mention the plain old hard work that makes your blog posts, books, and generous help to other writers possible.

    • Thanks, Frances. I never imagined myself talking in front of a big audience. I've always been kind of shy. But I really had fun with it. Now I don't think I will be so nervous at future talks.

  • I would have loved to attend but that is a long way from Stillwater, Ok
I read your book it is still in my mind a truly wonderful book. One that after a few pages is hard to lay it down. Great story to the end.

    • Thanks, Beverley! I have a lot of relatives in Oklahoma, and may give a book talk there when the weather is better and I can make the trip.
